"DO HARD THINGS!"
Not because suffering is the goal.
Not because exhaustion makes you important.
But because hard things force you to meet a version of yourself you have never met before.
I remember my first 50k.
Going into it, I thought it was mostly going to be physical.
Run the miles.
Manage the pacing.
Fight through the fatigue.
Keep moving.
But somewhere during that race, it became something much deeper.
As the miles stacked up and my body became more exhausted, something else started happening.
The comfortable version of me disappeared.
The version that likes certainty.
The version that likes convenience.
The version that wants to stop when things become uncomfortable.
And another version showed up.
A version of me I had never met before.
A version that could keep going when everything hurt.
A version that could stay calm in discomfort.
A version that could push past limits I thought were real.
A version that refused to quit.
But the truth is, there was a moment where I hit a wall.
A real wall.
Not just physically tired.
Not just uncomfortable.
A moment where I genuinely did not know if I could keep going.
And I think that is why the finish line meant so much.
Because at one point during that race, finishing no longer felt guaranteed.
Every step became a decision.
Keep going or stop.
Keep fighting or give in.
That battle became less about running and more about identity.
Who are you when things get hard?
Who are you when your body wants to quit?
Who are you when doubt gets loud?
Somewhere in those miles, I found out.
And when I crossed that finish line, a wave of emotion hit me that I never expected.
Exhaustion.
Joy.
Relief.
Elation.
But more than anything else:
I proved to myself that "I COULD"
That moment had very little to do with the medal.
It had everything to do with discovering capability I did not know existed.
That is why hard things matter.
Because there are parts of you that comfort will never reveal.
You do not discover resilience sitting on the couch.
You do not discover grit when everything is easy.
You do not discover strength when nothing challenges you.
Hard things reveal those things.
The hard workout.
The hard season.
The hard conversation.
The risk.
The sacrifice.
The moment where quitting feels easier.
Those moments become introductions.
Introductions to discipline.
To courage.
To patience.
To resilience.
To strength.
Most people spend their lives avoiding discomfort while simultaneously wondering why they never grow.
Growth requires resistance.
Physically.
Mentally.
Emotionally.
Spiritually.
Nothing strong is built without pressure.
Not muscle.
Not character.
Not confidence.
Confidence is built when you survive moments you once thought you could not handle.
That is why hard things change people.
Because once you meet that stronger version of yourself, you cannot unsee it!
You start carrying yourself differently.
You stop doubting every challenge.
You stop panicking when life gets heavy.
You stop seeing discomfort as something to avoid.
Because now you know something important:
You are capable of more than you thought.
So do hard things.
Because somewhere on the other side of difficulty is proof that you are stronger than you realized.
